The only reason i posted this thread was because if any other aluminum boat owner with a like problem, and if you have a bow eye and a steel hook and pull your boat onto your trailer and the boat has any age you will have the problem, i thought they might be interested in the fact that, if mechanically competent enough, with the necessary. In this video, we braze aluminum boat in an area that was previously patched with epoxy. the seam that runs down this aluminum boat has separated and is leaking badly..
If the bow eye (plate padeye?) is say 1/2" plate with an bevel, and the boat's stem is the two topsides plates/panels/sheets of lets say 1/8" or 3/16" then that is one weld circumstance. if the plate pad eye is welded to an extrusion at the bow stem that is another weld, and so forth.. Someone brought a damaged aluminum railing off a large fiberglass boat to the tech school welding shop where i'm taking a class. i was told the boat hit a steel beam supporting a channel marker. since i'm the only student who's done any tig welding on aluminum, the repair project is on my to-do list.. Tutorial on how to repair a dent/hole in the hull from a direct impact with another boat..
